What We're Fighting For
Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a condition in which the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating and an electric shock is needed to restart the heart. If not, death will occur within minutes. SCA can occur in many instances and we have made it our mission to encourage legislators to mandate the reporting of cardiac arrest. You can help in this effort by signing our petition.

CHALLENGE AMBASSADORS

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is our nation’s biggest killer, causing approximately 400,000 events annually with a survival rate of just 10%. The use of CPR and a defibrillator greatly increases the odds of surviving SCA. It’s the mission of Starting Hearts to train and equip everyday people to save the lives of their loved ones, neighbors and fellow Americans.
Starting Hearts launched its Save More Lives Challenge to inform and empower Americans through the practice of CALL. PUSH. SHOCK.™ (call 911, provide CPR & shock with a defibrillator). The Save More Lives Challenge asks participants to 1) watch a two-minute CALL. PUSH. SHOCK.™ training video, 2) practice CPR with household items and 3) share a photo or video of their practice session.
