Denver, Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015 – The American Red Cross of Colorado and Starting Hearts, Inc. have entered into a strategic partnership in an effort to expand the availability of lifesaving training in Colorado.
Starting Hearts is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving more lives by increasing awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) through Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training and access programs, as well as deploying AEDs throughout the public domain. The American Red Cross is a leader in training people on lifesaving techniques such as, CPR and AED. The partnership authorizes Starting Hearts to provide Red Cross CPR and AED training as a Licensed Training Provider throughout Colorado. Starting Hearts will conduct certification classes utilizing Red Cross content; and through its community outreach programs, will increase its offerings for CPR/AED training across the state.
“This is an exciting opportunity for the Red Cross to reach more people with our lifesaving training,” said Linda Krikorian, account representative for the Preparedness, Health and Safety Services of the American Red Cross. “Starting Hearts will help us do that in Colorado.”
Alan Himelfarb is the Executive Director for Starting Hearts. “The Red Cross has a storied history of providing state-of-the-art training based on solid medical science, “ Himelfarb said. “We are excited to be part of that tradition to help save more lives through CPR and AED training. With the help of our Red Cross associates, we will expand our efforts and activities to train more citizens throughout the state. ”

About Starting Hearts
Starting Hearts™ was formed in 2010, three years after its founder, Lynn Blake, suffered a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in Vail Village on Valentine’s Day. She was an otherwise healthy 27- year-old when her heart stopped without warning. Due to the quick intervention of bystanders, who dialed 911, performed CPR and used an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), she became one of the very lucky 8 percent to survive SCA. Now, her calling is to increase the odds for others who are suddenly stricken through the efforts of Starting Hearts. Learn more about Starting Hearts at www.startinghearts.org.
